Draft Ordinance Approved:
Tribunal May Recommend Action Against Political Parties
The Advisory Council has approved the draft of the amendment to the International Crimes Tribunal Ordinance, aimed at addressing cases of genocide and crimes against humanity. If the ordinance is enacted, the tribunal will have the authority to recommend trials for political parties involved in crimes against humanity.
On Wednesday (November 20), the draft ordinance was approved during a meeting of the Advisory Council held at the Secretariat.
According to the draft, the International Crimes Tribunal will not have the direct authority to punish political parties for crimes committed. However, the tribunal may recommend necessary punitive measures to the relevant authorities.
Earlier, for the first time since the formation of the interim government, nearly all advisors, including Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, attended a meeting held at the Secretariat. While regular meetings of the Advisory Council were previously held at the Chief Advisor's residence, Jamuna, or the Chief Advisor's Office, this marked the first time such a meeting was held in the conference room of the Secretariat, the administrative hub of Bangladesh.
After the meeting, the Chief Advisor began working at the Secretariat. As a result, security in and around the area has been significantly heightened.
