The High Court has dismissed the writ petition seeking to travel abroad filed by Matiur Rahman, who lost his position as a member of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and the president of the VAT Appeal Tribunal in the goat case.

The High Court bench of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Mubina Asaf issued the order on Monday (November 25).

Earlier on October 21, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad As-Shams Jaglul Hossain banned Matiur Rahman, his wife Laila Kaniz Lucky and son Ahmed Taufiqur Rahman Arnab from traveling abroad.

On that day, ACC Deputy Director Anwar Hossain filed a petition seeking a ban on their travel abroad. The petition said that a six-member investigation team had been formed to verify the asset declarations submitted by Matiur Rahman, his wife Laila Kamiz, and son Taufiqur Rahman Arnab. In the interest of a fair investigation, it is necessary to issue a new order to ban him and his family members from traveling abroad.

Based on Anwar Hossain's application, the court banned their foreign travel that day.

Challenging it, Matiur and his wife came to the High Court on Monday (November 25). Later, their lawyer filed a writ against Advocate SM Shamim Hossain. Later, the court dismissed the writ on the grounds that it was not raised during the hearing.

Incidentally, before Eid-ul-Azha, a video of Matiur Rahman's son Mushfiqur Rahman buying a goat for Tk 1.5 million went viral on social media. In the wake of this, allegations of corruption were raised against this NBR official. Later, on July 31, he was sent to retirement in a notification issued by the Internal Resources Department of the Ministry of Finance.
