Chinmoy Krishna's Bail Hearing Postponed to Jan 2
The court has set January 2, 2025, as the date for the bail hearing of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatan Jagaran Jote and former ISKCON leader.
On Tuesday, December 3, the bail hearing was deferred as no defense lawyer was present in the Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court presided over by Judge Md Saiful Islam.
Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Advocate Enamul Haque informed the media that no lawyer appeared on behalf of Chinmoy Krishna Das. Additionally, the prosecution sought more time for the hearing.
The court has fixed January 2, 2025, for the bail hearing. Since the hearing has not been held, the accused does not have the opportunity to go to the High Court.
Furthermore, as the case remains pending in the Sessions Court, there is no provision for seeking bail in the Magistrate's Court either.
It is noteworthy that Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested on November 25 in Dhaka on charges of sedition. The next day, November 26, he was produced in a Chattogram court, which denied bail and ordered his remand to custody.
