Discussion Held on Bringing Back Sheikh Hasina to Bangladesh: Foreign Secretary
Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Md Jasim Uddin has stated that discussions were held with Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri regarding bringing Sheikh Hasina back to Bangladesh.
On Monday (December 9), after a meeting with the Indian Foreign Secretary, Jasim Uddin briefed reporters.
The Foreign Secretary said, "We have discussed bringing back Sheikh Hasina to Bangladesh. However, when the time comes and all necessary processes are completed, the ministry will notify them (India)."
Jasim Uddin further mentioned that since Bangladesh refrains from interfering in India's internal matters, India has also been requested not to interfere in Bangladesh's issues.
In the meeting, the Bangladeshi Foreign Secretary brought up the issue of border killings. "We have stated that killings at the border are not desirable and are inconsistent with the friendly relationship between the two countries. We have always emphasized that border killings must be brought down to zero. In response, they mentioned that various crimes occur along the border, and such incidents are often linked to these crimes," he said.
"We have clarified that we do not condone any crimes, nor do we support killings. Therefore, we expect them to uphold their commitments and political assurances to reduce border killings to zero, in alignment with our friendly relations," he added.
Jasim Uddin also addressed concerns about minority persecution, inviting Indian representatives to visit and observe the situation in Bangladesh. "We want to be transparent, like an open book, to show there is nothing hidden regarding these issues," he said.
Additionally, the Foreign Secretary mentioned that Bangladesh sought India's cooperation in importing hydroelectric power from Nepal and Bhutan through Indian territory. Furthermore, he urged the resumption of visa processing for Bangladeshis intending to visit India.
