President Ramos-Horta of Timor-Leste in Dhaka, Welcomed by Dr. Yunus
President José Ramos-Horta of Timor-Leste has arrived in Dhaka for a four-day visit. On Saturday (December 14) at 10:30 PM, he landed at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport aboard a special flight of Singapore Airlines.
At the airport, the President was warmly welcomed by the Chief Adviser of the caretaker government, Nobel laureate economist Dr. Muhammad Yunus. A red carpet reception was arranged in honor of the Timor-Leste President.
It has been reported that José Ramos-Horta will be in Bangladesh from December 14 to 17. During his visit, an agreement to waive visas for holders of official and diplomatic passports is expected to be signed. Additionally, an announcement regarding the establishment of Timor-Leste's honorary consulate in Dhaka is anticipated. On Sunday (December 15) morning, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain will pay a courtesy call on the President of Timor-Leste. Later in the day, President Ramos-Horta will meet with Chief Adviser Dr. Yunus. The two leaders will have a private discussion at the Chief Adviser's office, followed by a meeting with their respective delegations. After the meeting, they will hold a joint press conference. In the presence of both leaders, agreements on visa exemption and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Foreign Office Consultation (FOC) will be signed.
On the third day of his visit, Monday (December 16), President Ramos-Horta will meet with the President of Bangladesh at Bangabhaban. He will also pay homage to the martyrs of Bangladesh’s Liberation War at the National Memorial in Savar. Additionally, he will participate in events commemorating Bangladesh’s 54th Victory Day.
On December 17, the final day of his visit, President Ramos-Horta will deliver a speech at the auditorium of the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) on the theme "The Challenges of Peace in the Contemporary World." He will also meet with Bangladeshi students and young leaders. Later in the afternoon, he will address Bangladeshi youth and students about his country’s struggle for independence, his leadership, the role of the people in the long struggle, and the aspirations of Timor-Leste’s citizens after independence and their implementation.
