Chief Adviser Reaches Egypt to Join D-8 Summit
The interim government's Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has arrived in Cairo, the capital of Egypt to attend the D-8 Summit.
On Wednesday (18 December), he landed at Cairo International Airport at 11:00 am local time.
The press wing of the Chief Adviser confirmed this information in the afternoon.
According to the press wing, Dr Yunus was welcomed at the airport by Egypt's Minister of Public Business Sector, Mohamed Shimi. Subsequently, the Chief Advisor held a brief meeting with him.
Earlier on Tuesday (17 December) at 1:00 am, Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus departed from Dhaka for Egypt.
Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Abul Kalam Azad Mazumder stated that apart from Bangladesh, the 11th D-8 Summit in Cairo would be attended by heads of government from several other nations.
These include Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.
In addition, Malaysia's Minister of Education and a high-ranking official from Nigeria will represent their respective countries.
The Deputy Press Secretary further mentioned that the theme of this year's D-8 Summit is "Investing in Youth and Supporting Small and Medium Enterprises: Shaping Tomorrow's Economy."
Highlighting the importance of the summit for Bangladesh, Abul Kalam Azad Mazumder said that Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus is attending the event to work on global youth-related issues. Discussions will include leveraging Bangladesh's potential in the SME sector.
On the sidelines of the summit, a meeting is also scheduled between Chief Advisor Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, he added.
