The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against six members of the Sheikh family, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana, for allegedly illegally acquiring government plots under their names in the Purbachal New Town Project.

On Sunday (January 12), the ACC Director General confirmed the matter. He stated that the ACC has filed a case against 16 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana.

The ACC began investigating the matter on December 26. On that day, ACC Director General Md Akhtar Hossain stated that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina misused her power under Article 13/A of the Constitution based on political considerations.

Through various irregularities and corruption, and with the assistance of senior RAJUK officials, she secured the allocation of six 10-katha plots (totalling 60 kathas) in the diplomatic zone on Road 203, Sector 27 of the Purbachal New Town Project. These plots were registered under her own name, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, her daughter Saima Wazed (Putul), her younger sister Sheikh Rehana, her sister's son Redwan Mujib Siddiq Bobby, and her sister's daughter Azmira Siddiqi.

He further stated that the allegations described in newspaper clippings appear to be specific, evidence-based, and fall under the offenses listed in the ACC schedule. Therefore, it was deemed appropriate to investigate the matter through the ACC's Special Investigation Division.
