Chief Adviser Participates in 47 Events in 4 Days in Switzerland

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus attended at least 47 events during the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting and other high-level side events in the Swiss city of Davos.

Deputy Press Secretary of the Chief Adviser, Abul Kalam Azad, confirmed this and mentioned that the Chief Adviser had a very busy schedule during the WEF. He participated in meetings with several heads of government, heads of state, and prominent individuals.

It is reported that on the sidelines of the WEF summit in Switzerland, Professor Yunus met with four heads of state or government, four high-ranking ministers, and ten chief executives from organizations, including the United Nations. He also attended meetings with ten business leaders, participated in nine formal banquets, and gave interviews to eight media outlets, along with attending two other events.

Since arriving in Davos on January 21, Professor Yunus has had a busy schedule, actively engaging with global leaders throughout the annual meeting.

Key Meetings and Events:
Day 1 (January 21):
The Chief Adviser participated in seven engagements and met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz during the summit’s break.
Professor Yunus also met with:

  • Christoph Heusgen, Chairman of the Munich Security Conference
  • Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra
  • Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim
  • East Timor President José Ramos-Horta
  • UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi
  • Finnish President Alexander Stubb

Day 2 (January 22):
He attended nearly 14 events and numerous side activities.

Key meetings included:

  • Wolfgang Schmidt, Head of the German Federal Chancellery
  • King Philippe of Belgium
  • Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra
  • Swiss Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis
  • Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority
  • UN Secretary-General António Guterres
  • Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi
  • Former U.S. Special Envoy on Climate John Kerry
  • Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair
  • UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk

Professor Yunus spoke at a plenary session on "The State of Climate and Nature" and also participated in an event for social entrepreneurs hosted by the Schwab Foundation at a hotel in Davos.

Day 3 (January 23):
The Chief Adviser participated in 14 scheduled events and many side programs.
He met with:

  • Nick Clegg, President of Global Affairs at Meta Platforms Inc.
  • Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World
  • Agnès Callamard, Secretary-General of Amnesty International
  • Robert Mærsk Uggla, Chairman of A.P. Moller-Maersk
  • Anna Bjerde, Managing Director of Operations at the World Bank

He also participated in a private meeting hosted by Klaus Schwab, Founder of the World Economic Forum, and gave a speech at an event at the Davos Climate Hub.

Final Day:
On the last day of the trip, the Chief Adviser attended over seven events.

American investor Ray Dalio, founder of Bridgewater Associates and Dalio Family Office, met with Professor Yunus during the summit.
Amer Alireza, Chairman of the Executive Committee of Xenel Group (Red Sea Gateway Terminal Company), also met with the Chief Adviser.
Earlier, on January 21, the Chief Adviser arrived in Zurich to attend the WEF Annual Meeting.
