Former Member of Parliament (MP) Mizanur Rahman of Khulna-2 constituency has been sentenced to eight years in prison for accumulating assets beyond his known income. The ruling was made by Judge Mohammad Abu Taher of Dhaka's Special Judge Court-3 on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
The court's decision followed hearings on January 23, where both the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the defense presented their arguments. On that day, the court cancelled Mizanur Rahman's bail and ordered his immediate imprisonment.
Before the verdict was delivered, Mizanur Rahman was brought from jail to the court. After the verdict was announced, the court issued a warrant for his sentence, returning him to prison.
The case, filed by the ACC on August 6, 2019, accused Mizanur Rahman of acquiring assets worth over 1 crore 58 lakh Taka beyond his known income. The charge also included concealing information about assets valued at 20 lakh Taka.
After completing the investigation, the ACC submitted a charge sheet on August 23, 2021.
