
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged that more than 100 leaders, activists of BNP, including its 19 candidates, were injured as Awami League men and police attacked them on Monday in 28 constituencies across the country.
He came up with the allegation at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in the city on Tuesday morning.
Rizvi said that most of the attacks occurred in different parts of the country on Monday during running campaign for the December 30 election.
He said that BNP Standing Committee member and senior leader Moudud Ahmed’s car was attacked and he narrowly survived the incident.
Awami League men made attack on party’s senior leaders Moin Khan, Mahbub Uddin Khokan, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury, Rizvi alleged.
Rizvi said that police opened fire on Major (Red) Akteruzzaman and Shariful Alam, the candidates of BNP from Kishoreganj.
Awami League cadres made attack on Md Nuruddin Ahmed Apu of Shariatpur-3 constituency and he was taken to Dhaka by helicopter in critical condition.
Besides, BNP’s Sherpur candidate Sansila Jabreen Priyanka has been seriously injured in a rival attack while Sardar Sarfuddin Ahmed Santu was injured in Barisal attack.
Rizvi also said that party's candidates Zainul Abdin Faruque, Fazlul Azim, Shah Moazzem Hossain, Selim Reza Habib, Azharul Islam Mannan and NPP chairman Dr Fariduzzaman Farhad were also attacked on Monday allegedly by Awami League supporters.
The members of Awami Jubo League, Chhatra League and Mohila League attacked BNP candidate Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram of Bhola-3 constituency when he was conducting electioneering.
