Bangladesh and Qatar have signed a deployment agreement under which an initial contingent of approximately 800 personnel of the Bangladesh Armed Forces will serve in the Qatar Armed Forces on a three-year deputation.
According to a press release issued by the Chief Adviser's Press Wing on Sunday evening, Principal Staff Officer of Bangladesh Armed Forces Division Lieutenant General SM Kamrul Hassan and Chief of Staff of Qatar Armed Forces Lieutenant General (Pilot) Jassim bin Mohammed Al Mannai signed the agreement in Doha.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Qatar Mohammad Hazrat Ali Khan, delegation members, and concerned officials of the embassy were present at the signing ceremony.
Under the agreement, members of the Bangladesh Armed Forces will get the opportunity to be deployed on deputation in the Qatar Armed Forces.
Though approximately 800 personnel will be sent to Qatar initially, there is potential for increasing this number in the future.
The personnel to be deployed will be appointed for an initial period of three years, and, subject to satisfactory performance, the tenure may be extended up to six years.
Meanwhile, the agreement was signed after Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus's visit to Qatar from April 21-25 this year on the occasion of the Arthana conference.
