
On the occasion of Grand Victory Day (Mahan Bijoy Dibosh), President Md Shahabuddin and Chief Adviser of the Interim Government Dr. Muhammad Yunus led the nation in paying deep respect to the greatest sons of the soil martyred during the 1971 Liberation War.
The two leaders offered their tribute by laying wreaths at the National Martyrs' Memorial (Jatiya Smriti Saudha) in Savar early Tuesday morning.
Following the wreath-laying ceremony, the President and the Chief Adviser stood in solemn silence for a brief period, demonstrating deep reverence for the sacrifices of the martyrs of '71.
After paying their respects, the President and the Chief Adviser exchanged greetings with members of the Interim Government’s Advisory Council, senior army officials, freedom fighters, and the relatives of the martyr families.
31-Gun Salute Honors Martyrs
Simultaneously, the Bangladesh Army honored the Liberation War martyrs with a 31-gun salute at the Tejgaon Old Airport in the capital.
A similar 31-gun salute was also executed in Cox's Bazar at the same time, marking the start of the national celebrations.
