
Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on Saturday said that the government has no restrictions or objections concerning the return of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to the country.
When questioned about Tarique Rahman’s recent statement that the decision regarding his immediate return is not entirely open or within his sole control, the press secretary responded clearly, “The government has no restrictions or objections of any kind in this regard.”
He further said that Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has already expressed deep concern over the physical condition of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
The Chief Adviser also sought prayers from the countrymen for her quick recovery, he added.
Meanwhile, during the 1/11 government, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) brought multiple corruption allegations against Tarique Rahman. Following reports that he was tortured while in detention. Later, he was released for medical treatment and departed the country for London on September 11, 2008.
