
Dhaka recently hosted celebrations for the 50th anniversary of Timor-Leste’s Proclamation of Independence. The event emphasized the importance of this milestone and highlighted the potential for expanded bilateral cooperation between the two nations, especially following Timor-Leste's recent accession as the 11th member of ASEAN.
A press release, issued on Sunday, stated that the event was held at a hotel in the capital on Friday evening hosted by Engr. Kutubuddin Ahmed, Honorary Consul of Timor-Leste to Bangladesh.
Adviser for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Dr Asif Nazrul attended as the Chief Guest.
Also, Timor-Leste foreign ministry’s Director General Ambassador Jorge Camoes and Director Emanuel Tilman were present there.
The event brought together diplomats, senior government officials, military officers, academicians, business leaders and friends of both nations, reflecting the warm and longstanding ties between Bangladesh and Timor-Leste.
The adviser praised the historic struggle and resilience of the Timorese people and lauded the country’s democratic progress and growing engagement in South Asia.
Engr. Kutubuddin Ahmed underscored the significance of Timor-Leste’s 50-year independence milestone.
He also stressed the potential for expanding collaboration in trade, investment, skills development, diplomacy and people-to-people exchanges between Bangladesh and Timor-Leste.
Meanwhile, the event wrapped up with cultural performances, highlighting the deep friendship and mutual goals shared by the two nations.
