
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Tuesday presented the Begum Rokeya Padak 2025 to four remarkable women at a gala event at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.
The prestigious award recognizes their significant contributions in key areas benefiting society, specifically women's education and rights, the advancement of human rights, and fostering women's awakening.
The Ministry of Women and Children Affairs arranged the event marking Begum Rokeya Day 2025.
The event was held to observe both the 145th birth anniversary and the 93rd death anniversary of Begum Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain, who is celebrated as a pioneering advocate for women's rights and education.
The four distinguished recipients of the Begum Rokeya Padak 2025, and their respective areas of contribution, are:
Dr Rubhana Rakib, a physician, was honored in the category of Women's Education (Research).
Kalpana Akter, a respected labor leader, received the award for her work in Women's Rights (Labor).
Dr. Nabila Idris, a dedicated rights activist, was recognized in the category of Human Rights.
Ritu Porna Chakma, a member of the Bangladesh Women's National Football Team, won the award for contributing to Women's Awakening (Sports).
Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid chaired the event while other advisers of the interim government, distinguished personalities as well as family members and relatives of the awardees were present at the function.
Senior Secretary of the Women and Children Affairs Ministry Mamtaz Ahmed delivered the welcome address at the function.
A cultural programme, including the screening of a documentary titled Ami-e Rokeya, was held to highlight Begum Rokeya's contributions to promoting women's education and combating child marriage.
