Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will hold nationwide protest rallies on Saturday to condemn the recent shootings targeting opposition-affiliated figures.
The rallies are specifically planned in response to the attack on Sharif Osman Hadi—an independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency in the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election 2026 and a spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho—who was critically injured after armed assailants opened fire on him in the capital's Paltan area on Friday afternoon.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told journalists that the perpetrators were acting according to a "blue print" designed to undermine the progress of democracy, free and fair elections, and a peaceful environment.
Rizvi asserted that today's shooting of Osman Hadi is part of that same plan, linking it to an earlier attack on Ershad Ullah, Convener of Chittagong City BNP and the party's nominated candidate for the Chittagong-8 constituency, who was shot a few days prior.
“In protest of these incidents, BNP and all its affiliated organizations will hold protest marches tomorrow across Bangladesh, including Dhaka, demanding the arrest and exemplary punishment of the perpetrators,” Rizvi announced.
