Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) paid homage to the Martyred Intellectuals, observing Martyred Intellectuals Day on Sunday.
The homage was specifically offered on behalf of the party's Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir led the tribute, placing a wreath at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in Mirpur this morning.
Following the wreath-laying ceremonyMirza Fakhrul reflected on the solemn occasion. He asserted that the planned, last-minute attempt by the Pakistani occupation forces to "intellectually cripple the nation" just before the 1971 Liberation War victory ultimately failed.
He then linked the sacrifices of 1971 to the party's current struggle, pledging that the BNP would continue its fight to protect the country's sovereignty and democracy.
He concluded with a message of optimism, expressing his belief that the party would succeed in restoring democracy by overcoming all conspiracies, and that "the dream of building a new Bangladesh envisioned by Tarique Rahman will be realized."
Senior party officials including Standing Committee Member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and other senior party leaders were present there.
