The remains of Sharif Osman Hadi arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Friday evening on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight, amid tight security and widespread public mourning.
The Biman Bangladesh officials said that Airlines Flight BG 585, carrying the body of Sharif Osman Hadi, who died while undergoing treatment in Singapore, landed at the Dhaka airport at 5:49 pm.
The flight had taken off from Singapore Changi International Airport at 4:03pm (2:03 pm BST) en route to Dhaka with the body on board.
According to a post on Inquilab Moncho’s official Facebook page, the body is now being taken to the cold storage of the National Institute of CardioVascular Diseases (NICVD) to preserve it.
On Saturday, the body will be taken to Manik Mia Avenue where his namaz-e-Janaza will be held followed by Zuhr prayer.
Later, the body will be transported to the central mosque of Dhaka University and will be laid to rest beside National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, as demanded by his family, the post reads.
The organisation urged supporters to pay tributes to the ‘fearless hero who sacrificed his life to protect justice, freedom and sovereignty’ by maintaining disciplined positions along both sides of the road from the airport to Shahbagh.
