Dr Zubaida Rahman, wife of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, departed Dhaka for London Saturday morning after a two-week visit with her mother-in-law, former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson and Begum Khaleda Zia.
According to BNP Media Cell member Atiqur Rahman Rumon, she left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:30 am via a London bound Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight (BG-201).
"She has returned to London. Insha'Allah, she will return to the country on Thursday with Tarique Rahman and their daughter Barrister Zaima Rahman. The flight departed on schedule. This flight will reach London's Heathrow Airport directly via Sylhet," he added.
Dr Zubaida Rahman arrived in Dhaka on December 5 to be by the side of her mother-in-law, Begum Zia, who is currently receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital.
As a member of the Chairperson's medical board, Dr Zubaida remained at the hospital to provide constant monitoring of Begum Zia’s medical care.
Begum Zia is being treated by a specialized medical board of local and international experts, led by Professor Shahabuddin Talukdar. She was originally admitted to Evercare Hospital on November 23 following a decline in her health and was subsequently moved to the Critical Care Unit (CCU) for intensive treatment.
On Wednesday, Begum Zia’s personal physician and BNP Standing Committee member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, another member of the medical board, reported that the BNP Chairperson's condition is now the most stable it has been in over a month. He expressed the board's optimism regarding her gradual recovery.
Following this improvement in Begum Zia's health, Dr Zubaida flew back to London to prepare for her permanent return to Bangladesh.
This move marks the end of a 17-year period abroad; she originally traveled to London with her daughter, Zaima Rahman, on September 11, 2008, to seek advanced medical treatment for her husband, Tarique Rahman.
She now intends to return to the country soon with both her husband and daughter.
