Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged that the death of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia was not a natural occurrence, but rather a 'planned murder' orchestrated through systematic negligence and state-sponsored torture.

Speaking as the chief guest during a prayer program, organized by the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Front to seek eternal peace for the departed soul at Dhakeshwari Temple on Friday, Rizvi directly held former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina accountable for the demise of the BNP Chairperson.

Rizvi claimed that the previous administration intentionally pushed Khaleda Zia toward death during her imprisonment.

"Begum Khaleda Zia was slowly pushed to death through the negligence and torture directly by the then government. Sheikh Hasina is responsible for this death," he stated, pointing toward extreme negligence in providing proper medical treatment, medication, and nutrition.

He asserted that these actions were part of a calculated plot carried out by designated officials under the then-government.

The BNP leader described Khaleda Zia as a "mother to the nation" and an "anchor" who provided courage to the people during terrifying political climates.

Highlighting her inclusive nature, Rizvi remarked that as a deeply religious yet non-communal leader, people of all faiths and backgrounds felt secure under her leadership.

"She proved that honesty, loyalty, and commitment are the pillars of real politics," Rizvi said. He noted her unique "cultural height," mentioning that despite being the target of bitter and indecent comments from political rivals, she never retaliated with offensive language.

Rizvi emphasized that Khaleda Zia’s refusal to leave the country, even under immense pressure, solidified her place in the hearts of the people. He noted that her presence, even while under house arrest, served as a primary source of inspiration for those fighting to restore democracy.

The program, presided over by Puja Udjapon Front President Aparna Roy, was attended by several senior BNP leaders, including Aminul Islam, Mahbubur Rahman and members of the Chhatra Dal central committee.
