The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is observing its 48th founding anniversary through a variety of programs.

As part of the initial events on Tuesday morning (September 1), BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid tribute at the mausoleums of the party's founder, martyred President Ziaur Rahman, and former Prime Minister, the late Khaleda Zia.

Arriving at the mausoleums alongside central leaders on Tuesday morning as scheduled, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman recited Fateha and laid floral wreaths to honor their memories, later participating in a special munajat (prayer).

He was accompanied by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Minister of Local Government Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Chief Whip of Parliament Nurul Islam Moni, and other senior political figures, alongside central leaders of the party's affiliated wings and activists from various levels.

President Ziaur Rahman founded the BNP on September 1, 1978. Since its inception, the party has played a significant role in national politics, with members reflecting on his political philosophy and party ideals on this anniversary.

The party's founding highlights the protection of independence and sovereignty, multi-party democracy, and national development.

According to the party, Ziaur Rahman established the BNP during a critical political and economic juncture to steer the nation toward development and production.

To mark the milestone, the BNP has announced a five-day program.

Proceedings began at 6:00 AM on Tuesday with the hoisting of the national and party flags at the central office in Nayapaltan and at party offices nationwide, followed by the 9:00 AM tribute led by the Prime Minister.

A discussion meeting regarding the purpose and significance of the BNP's founding is scheduled for September 5 at 3:00 PM at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh auditorium in Dhaka.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is slated to attend as the chief guest, joined by senior leaders and prominent national intellectuals.

Additionally, the party has published a commemorative poster and launched nationwide tree plantation and fish release programs as part of its environmental and public welfare initiatives.

The fish release program will be led by Joint Secretary General Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel, while the tree plantation will be overseen by Joint Secretary General and Minister of Water Resources Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie.

Alongside central events, BNP district, metropolitan, and grassroots units are organizing local discussions and programs, fostering widespread enthusiasm from the central leadership down to the local level through flag hoisting, prayers, and political strategy sessions.

This 48th anniversary arrives at a time of significant discussion regarding the party's political role and future positioning, with a primary focus on the philosophies of Ziaur Rahman, the political legacy of Khaleda Zia, and the BNP's enduring journey.
