The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) officially summoned Myanmar Ambassador Kyaw Soe Moe on Tuesday to lodge a formal protest following an incident of unprovoked gunfire from across the border.

The cross-border firing, which occurred on Sunday near Whykong Union in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar, left a 12-year-old Bangladeshi girl severely injured.

During the meeting, Bangladeshi officials expressed deep concern and condemned the act as a "blatant violation of international law" and a serious threat to good neighborly relations.

The government demanded that Myanmar take full responsibility for the incident and implement immediate measures to prevent any future recurrence of cross-border violence.

The Foreign Ministry further emphasized that the ongoing internal conflicts between Myanmar’s military authorities and various armed groups must not spill over into Bangladesh.

They stressed that such clashes should not, under any circumstances, endanger the lives or livelihoods of Bangladeshi citizens.

In response, Ambassador Kyaw Soe Moe conveyed his government’s sincere sympathy for the injured girl and her family, assuring Dhaka that Myanmar would take the necessary steps to halt such incidents.
