Prime Minister Tarique Rahman officially commenced his duties at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in Tejgaon on Saturday, marking his first formal day at the premises since being sworn in as the 11th Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
Upon his arrival at approximately 10:10 am, the Prime Minister inaugurated his tenure at the office by planting a "Swarna Chapa" flower sapling and offering a special prayer of gratitude.
He was received by Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, Defence Adviser Brig Gen (retd) Dr. AKM Shamsul Islam, and other senior officials.
Before beginning his formal schedule, the Prime Minister spent time exchanging greetings with PMO staff, specifically inquiring after veteran officials who had previously served during the administration of his mother, former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
This move follows a five-day period during which he operated out of the Cabinet Division at the Bangladesh Secretariat following his landslide victory in the 13th parliamentary elections.
His party secured a commanding 209 out of 297 seats, leading to a February 17 inauguration where President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath of office at the Sangsad Bhaban’s South Plaza.
The new administration, consisting of 25 ministers and 24 state ministers, takes the helm during a pivotal moment for the nation.
With the transition to the PMO complete, the government is expected to pivot immediately toward its core stated priorities: aggressive economic reforms, strengthened regional diplomacy, and the maintenance of national stability.
