Prime Minister Tarique Rahman marked International Mother Language Day on Saturday by releasing a commemorative postage stamp, an opening envelope, and a special canceller at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The ceremony took place on the office premises in Tejgaon, where the Prime Minister is officially beginning his tenure following his inauguration earlier this week.

This significant symbolic act coincided with his first full day of operations at the PMO. Since taking the oath as the country’s 11th Prime Minister on February 17, Tarique Rahman had been conducting official business from the Cabinet Division in the Bangladesh Secretariat.

His move to the Tejgaon office today signals the full transition of the new administration into its permanent headquarters.

Earlier in the morning, the Prime Minister underscored his commitment to national growth and environmental stewardship by planting a "Swarna Chapa" flower sapling on the PMO grounds before commencing his formal work.

The release of the postage stamp serves as a tribute to the language martyrs of 1952, a cornerstone of Bangladeshi national identity.
