Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called for a renewed era of international engagement, advocating for partnerships centered on expanded trade, technology transfer, and deeper people-to-people connections.

Addressing the diplomatic community during an Iftar gathering hosted at the State Guest House Jamuna on Friday, the Prime Minister emphasized that Bangladesh is committed to an open and collaborative path toward development.

"We believe prosperity today is built through cooperation and connectivity, not isolation," the Prime Minister told the assembled envoys in his first formal Ramadan gathering since taking office.

Outlining his administration's economic vision, the Prime Minister highlighted plans to foster a competitive business environment through prudent deregulation and the strengthening of public-private partnerships.

"Our goal is to unlock the full potential of our people and private sector," he said, adding that the government would prioritize macroeconomic stability, law and order, and the enhancement of human resource development through aggressive upskilling programs.

Regarding the nation’s diplomatic trajectory, he asserted that Bangladesh’s foreign policy would remain pragmatic and sustainable, guided by a principle of friendship toward all based on mutual trust, interest, and sovereignty.

"We value bilateral and multilateral partnerships, and remain open to candid dialogue and stronger collaboration in the years ahead," he added.

The Prime Minister’s remarks also touched on the core values of his administration, characterizing democracy as a continuous commitment to inclusion and accountability.

"We recognise that public trust depends on transparency and integrity, and we will take firm measures to combat corruption at all levels of governance. Democracy, for us, is not confined to the ballot box; it is an ongoing commitment to inclusion, transparency, and dialogue," he stated.

He further noted that the government is dedicated to protecting human rights, freedom of expression, and pluralism, while simultaneously introducing targeted social support programs like the Family Card and Farmers’ Card to assist women and agricultural communities.

Addressing the environmental challenges facing the country, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Bangladesh's role in the global climate agenda. "As a climate-vulnerable nation, we remain committed to working constructively with our global partners to advance climate resilience and sustainable development," he noted.

A significant part of the evening was dedicated to the country's multilateral ambitions, as the Prime Minister formally introduced and sought international support for the candidacy of Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman for the presidency of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly for the 2026–2027 term.

The event, attended by ambassadors, cabinet members, and lawmakers, served as a platform for the Prime Minister to reaffirm his government's pledge to build a diversified, technology-driven economy that ensures the benefits of growth reach every corner of the nation.
