Prime Minister Tarique Rahman officially inaugurated the government’s landmark 'Family Card' programme on Tuesday, marking a significant step in fulfilling his election commitments to support women’s empowerment, economic inclusion and social justice.

Speaking at the launch ceremony held at the T&T Playground in Banani, the Prime Minister reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to these goals despite the current global challenges.

“We will fulfil the promises we have made to the people one by one,” the Prime Minister declared.

“These are the commitments that will change the fate of people and transform the destiny of the country. We will try to implement them at any cost.”

Acknowledging the significant expectations placed upon his newly formed government, the Prime Minister noted that the current global landscape, particularly the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, could impact the timeline of certain projects.

“Taking into account the realities and the current global situation—including circumstances in the Middle East—it might take longer in some cases to implement certain pledges,” he explained.

However, he emphasized that the government remains unwavering in its commitment, stating, “We would not deviate in the slightest from the promises it had made.”

The Prime Minister urged citizens to maintain patience as the government navigates these complex international circumstances.

“We must work together to build the country in a positive and constructive manner,” he said, expressing confidence that his administration would successfully deliver the Family Card to women heads of all four crore families in Bangladesh within the next five years.

The inauguration ceremony, which began with religious recitations and the playing of the BNP theme song, saw the Prime Minister and his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, distribute the first batch of cards.

The pilot phase of the initiative is currently being rolled out across 15 wards in 13 districts, providing selected women-led households with a monthly allowance of BDT 2,500 transferred directly through the G2P digital payment system.
