Prime Minister Tarique Rahman initiated the distribution of special Eid gifts and financial assistance to the families of victims of enforced disappearances, killings, and political repression, as well as the martyrs of the July 2024 mass uprising.

The Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary, Atikur Rahman Ruman, confirmed on Wednesday that the disbursement of funds began on Tuesday across all districts.

Continuing a tradition he established in 2016 as the BNP Chairman and Chief Patron of "Amra BNP Poribar," Mr. Rahman is personally overseeing the reach of these gifts to approximately 190 families this year.

The initiative specifically targets those who have suffered under state-sponsored repression over the past 17 years.

Since 2025, the program has expanded its scope to include the families of those who sacrificed their lives during the historic July movement.

While the Prime Minister’s office noted a slight delay in this year’s distribution due to the heavy administrative schedule of the new government’s first month, officials emphasized that the welfare of these families remains a top priority for the Premier.

"Every year, Mr. Tarique Rahman provides 'Eid gifts' to the families of victims of enforced disappearances and killings. He has not forgotten them," said Ruman, highlighting the Prime Minister's long-standing commitment to these households during the month of Ramadan.

Mokhchedul Momin Mithun, Member Secretary of "Amra BNP Poribar," explained that while the government initially intended to transfer the funds through formal bank accounts, the decision was made to utilize localized teams to ensure faster delivery.

BNP and its affiliated organizations, alongside "Amra BNP Poribar" representatives, are currently working on the ground to ensure the gift money reaches every recipient ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays.
