President Md. Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman joined thousands of devotees at the National Eidgah Maidan on Saturday morning to offer prayers for the holy Eid-ul-Fitr.

The joint participation of the nation’s top leadership underscored a message of national unity and religious harmony as the country transitioned from the month of Ramadan into a day of celebration.

The primary congregation of the day commenced at 8:34 am at the National Eidgah, situated adjacent to the High Court.

The prayers were led by Mufti Muhammad Abdul Malek, the Khatib of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

Following the sermon, special supplications were offered for the peace, progress, and prosperity of Bangladesh and the Muslim Ummah.

The high-profile gathering included the Chief Justice, members of the Cabinet, Supreme Court judges, senior political leaders, and top-ranking civil and military officials.

Despite a cloudy sky and light morning drizzle, the spiritual fervor remained undampened.

Devotees from across the capital began streaming into the grounds from the early hours, completely filling the venue’s 35,000-person capacity before the start of the prayers.

Managed by the Dhaka South City Corporation, the venue featured meticulous arrangements, including dedicated sections to ensure that women could participate in the prayers comfortably.

Security was at its highest level, with the Special Security Force (SSF), Police, and RAB maintaining a coordinated presence to ensure a safe environment for all attendees.

After the conclusion of the formal prayers, the President and Prime Minister exchanged Eid greetings with the gathered dignitaries and citizens.

The event at the National Eidgah remains the centerpiece of the country’s Eid celebrations, serving as a symbol of the collective spiritual identity of the nation.
