A major consignment of 62,150 metric tonnes of wheat from the United States arrived at the outer anchorage of Chattogram Port on Friday, marking a significant step in bolstering the national food grain reserve.

The shipment arrived under a government-to-government (G2G) agreement and represents the second delivery under the current deal, following a previous consignment of 58,457 metric tonnes.

According to Ministry of Food officials, sampling and quality testing are already underway onboard the vessel to facilitate a swift unloading process.

The ministry has outlined a distribution plan for the cargo: 37,290 metric tonnes will be discharged at Chattogram Port, while the remaining 24,860 metric tonnes are scheduled for unloading at Mongla Port.

To date, Bangladesh has imported a total of 467,884 metric tonnes of wheat through various G2G arrangements (G2G-01 and G2G-02).

With a domestic production of approximately 1 million tonnes against an annual national demand of 7 million metric tonnes, these high-volume imports remain critical to bridging the supply gap and ensuring food security.
