The Jamuna Bridge has recorded a massive surge in traffic and revenue as thousands of holidaymakers begin their return journey to Dhaka following the Eid-ul-Fitr break.

Over a 24-hour period ending Friday midnight, the bridge authority collected a total of BDT 3.41 crore in tolls.

According to Syed Riaz Uddin, Executive Engineer of the Jamuna Bridge Site Office, a total of 46,278 vehicles crossed the bridge during this window.

The data highlights a heavy tilt toward the capital, with 30,056 Dhaka-bound vehicles contributing BDT 1.98 crore to the tally. Meanwhile, 16,222 vehicles traveling toward North Bengal accounted for BDT 1.43 crore.

To manage the intense pressure on the Dhaka-Tangail highway, authorities have activated 18 toll booths, with nine operating on each side of the bridge.

To further streamline the flow, two dedicated booths have been assigned specifically for motorcycles on each end.

Bridge officials confirmed that all booths are operating around the clock.

Despite the high volume of commuters, the site office emphasized that strategic management and the specialized lane system are being utilized to ensure that the massive influx of vehicles remains safe and efficient.
