Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is expected to officially launch the government's digital "Farmer Card" initiative on a pilot basis across 10 districts, including Tangail, on April 14.

The launch coincides with Pahela Baishakh, marking the start of the Bangla New Year 1433.

The Farmer Card is a strategic digital intervention designed by the government to modernize and streamline the distribution of agricultural support.

By leveraging this technology, the government aims to provide landless, small and marginal farmers with direct access to essential subsidies, loans, and agricultural inputs.

A core objective of the initiative is to eliminate intermediaries, ensuring that farmers receive fair pricing and benefits directly.

The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), operating under the Ministry of Agriculture, will be responsible for the implementation of the program.

As part of the initial phase, each eligible landless, marginal, and small farmer will receive financial grants or agricultural inputs valued at an average of BDT 2,500.

This direct support is intended to bolster productivity and provide a safety net for the country's most vulnerable agricultural producers.
