
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Thursday issued a direct order to the relevant authorities to implement comprehensive steps to promote a reading habit among students across the country.
The directive was given during a high-level meeting held at the Prime Minister’s office in the Secretariat, which brought together leadership from the Bishwo Shahitto Kendro and the ministries of Education, Primary and Mass Education, and Cultural Affairs.
According to the Prime Minister’s Press Wing, a significant decision was reached during the session for the government to work jointly with Bishwo Shahitto Kendro to cultivate reading habits among the youth.
The meeting served as a follow-up to an earlier discussion on April 7 between the Prime Minister and Prof. Abdullah Abu Sayeed, where the groundwork for this collaboration was first established.
Prof. Abdullah Abu Sayeed, the founder of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro, participated in the detailed discussions regarding the nationwide expansion of reading programs.
He was joined by Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon, Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury, State Minister Ali Newaz Mahmood Khyom, and State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj.
Additionally, Prime Minister’s Advisers Mahdi Amin and Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman were also in attendance to provide strategic input on the initiative.
The meeting focused on the logistical and educational frameworks required to ensure that literature and reading programs reach every corner of the country, reinforcing the government's commitment to intellectual development through this partnership with Bishwo Shahitto Kendro.
