Prime Minister Tarique Rahman informed the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) on Sunday that fuel oil rationing for the police and other emergency services has been officially withdrawn to ensure public safety and operational efficiency.

The Leader of the House made the announcement in response to a point of order raised by treasury bench lawmaker Manirul Haque Chowdhury (Cumilla-6).

Manirul Haque Chowdhury had expressed concern that the police administration was reducing nighttime patrols under the pretext of fuel rationing, leading to a rise in criminal activities and a disruption of public safety.

He specifically cited the recent killing of a young customs officer in Cumilla, noting that local police claimed their patrol operations were hampered by fuel shortages.

Addressing these concerns, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, who also serves as the ruling BNP chairman, clarified that the restriction had already been lifted.

“We have already addressed the issue raised by a member of the parliament.

For the emergency forces, including police, ambulances or fire brigades, the embargo has already been removed,” the Prime Minister stated.

He further clarified the timeline of the decision, noting that the administration had acted swiftly.

“We made the decision two days ago and also cleared it two days ago,” he said, expressing his hope that the removal of the rationing would resolve any further patrolling or emergency response issues.

The session was presided over by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram.

The Prime Minister’s intervention followed the lawmaker's urgent plea for the government to immediately retract the fuel rationing system for law enforcement agencies to restore order and security across the country.
