State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam stated on Sunday that Bangladesh expects its maritime vessels, including the MV Banglar Joyjatra, to maintain safe passage through the volatile Strait of Hormuz.

Responding to queries from reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Minister emphasized the importance of secure transit for Bangladeshi shipping interests.

“We expect all ships, including MV Banglar Joyjatra, to pass safely through the Strait of Hormuz," she said. She further noted the operational involvement of other departments, adding, "The energy ministry (Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry) will know better.”

The statement follows a recent diplomatic communication from the Iranian Embassy in Dhaka on April 21. The Embassy confirmed its ongoing efforts to facilitate the safe passage of Bangladeshi vessels through the strategic waterway.

Additionally, the Iranian mission highlighted its role in the safe evacuation of 186 Bangladeshi nationals from Iran, who were transported via Azerbaijan.

In a formal press statement, the Iranian Embassy reiterated its firm commitment to strengthening the "close and amicable relations" between the two countries. The mission also issued a call for diplomatic caution to avoid regional misunderstandings.

"The Embassy... called upon all concerned to refrain from any actions or statements that may create misperceptions, and to uphold the spirit of mutual respect that governs the enduring ties between the two brotherly nations."

The reassurance from Tehran comes as Bangladesh monitors the security of its trade routes and the safety of its citizens in the region.
