Visiting Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday morning to discuss key issues of mutual interest and bolster strategic bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Turkey.

The high-profile meeting took place at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in Tejgaon, according to Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Saleh Shibly.

During the talks, the two leaders held extensive dialogues on expanding mutual cooperation and advancing shared diplomatic goals.

The meeting was also attended by a high-level Bangladeshi delegation, including Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir, and State Minister Shama Obaed.

Foreign Minister Fidan arrived in Dhaka late Thursday night from Seoul for a three-day official tour.

His packed diplomatic itinerary included a bilateral session on Friday with his counterpart, Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman, at the Hotel InterContinental Dhaka.

Following his capital-based talks, the Turkish envoy traveled to Cox’s Bazar to inspect the ground realities and humanitarian conditions of the Rohingya refugee camps.

Turkey has consistently been a vital international ally in supporting the displaced Rohingya population.

Foreign Minister Fidan is scheduled to conclude his official visit and depart Dhaka later on Saturday.
