The Cabinet, in a special meeting on Thursday, approved the proposed national budget of BDT 9.38 lakh crore for the upcoming 2026–27 fiscal year (FY27).

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman chaired the meeting held at the cabinet room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban this morning, which commenced at 10 am.

Briefing reporters after the session at 1 pm, Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman confirmed the development, stating, “The Cabinet, chaired by honorable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, has approved the proposed budget.”

Following the formal authentication of the Finance Bill by President Mohammed Shahabuddin, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury is scheduled to unveil the grand fiscal blueprint in the Jatiya Sangsad at 3 pm on this day.

This marks a significant milestone as it is the first national budget to be presented in Parliament under the government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

During the tenure of the previous interim government, in the absence of an active parliament, state expenditure and revised financial ordinances were approved directly by the Advisory Council.

Those financial ordinances were later published as gazette notifications in the form of specification ordinances after receiving presidential assent, taking effect immediately upon issuance.
