President Mohammed Shahabuddin on Thursday authenticated the national budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 (FY27) along with the revised budget for FY 2025-26, just prior to their presentation before the National Parliament by Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.

The Head of State signed and authenticated the official budget documents at his office within the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban complex at around 2:45 pm.

The economic blueprint had been approved earlier in the day by the Cabinet during a special meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The proposed national budget for FY27 features a historic financial outlay of BDT 9.38 lakh crore, making it the largest in the country's history.

According to a parliament source, the formal authentication ceremony was attended by Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, State Minister for Planning Zonayed Saki, Finance Division Secretary Dr. Md. Khairuzzaman Mozumder and Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and Secretary of the Internal Resources Division (IRD) Md. Abdur Rahman Khan.

The secretaries concerned to the President alongside other senior high-ranking officials were also present on the occasion.

This fiscal package marks the country's 55th national budget and stands as the first budget of the incumbent BNP government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

It is also the maiden budget presentation for Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, who is a standing committee member of the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

Finance Division officials revealed that the historic budget has been prepared under the core theme: "Economic Democratization and Deregulation: Bangladesh's Journey Towards a Trillion-Dollar Economy".

Significantly, this is the first national budget presented by a BNP administration since the FY2006-07 budget, which was placed nearly two decades ago by the then-finance minister, M. Saifur Rahman.

Following the formal proceedings, the President also spent time exchanging greetings with the officials and employees of the Jatiya Sangsad.
