The Police Headquarters has issued a nationwide alert amid concerns over potential clashes between Awami League activists and members of opposing political groups, centering on the party’s founding anniversary scheduled for June 23.

In a formal communication issued on Thursday, the Police Headquarters directed all police units across the country to remain on high alert and implement necessary precautionary measures to maintain law and order.

According to the communication, there is a risk that leaders and activists of the Awami League—which currently faces a ban on its activities—may attempt to mark the anniversary by hoisting party flags at local offices and organizing processions carrying banners in various districts.

Authorities fear that such activities could spark direct confrontations with activists from other political factions, particularly members of the National Citizen Party and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, thereby threatening regional stability.

The directive also explicitly warned that Awami League activists could become hostile toward law enforcement personnel should officers attempt to obstruct them from carrying out these planned programs.

Several officials from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and district superintendents of police have confirmed receiving these precautionary instructions.

Sources at the Police Headquarters stated that the alert was issued as a proactive measure based on intelligence reports received from several agencies.

In response, police have already begun preparations to bolster security across the country, while intelligence surveillance has been significantly intensified to monitor potential flashpoints ahead of the June 23 anniversary.
