Bangladesh and China are poised to sign 15 to 17 bilateral instruments during Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s upcoming official visit to China, according to Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam.

Addressing reporters at a media briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday morning, the Foreign Secretary specified that the instruments likely to be signed include 13 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), two agreements, one action plan and one protocol.

Furthermore, he confirmed that the highly anticipated Teesta project would be a subject of discussion during the visit.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to embark on a strategic twin-visit to Malaysia and China starting this Sunday, marking his first trip abroad since his government assumed office in February.

Regarding the size of the delegations for these tours, the Foreign Secretary noted that they have been kept "at a logical level," comprising 27 members for the Malaysia leg and 28 for the visit to China.

"We tried to keep it at a logical level," he said.

The Prime Minister will depart for Kuala Lumpur on Sunday afternoon at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, with the visit expected to focus on expanding trade, investment opportunities and cooperation within the labor market.

From Kuala Lumpur, he will travel to China on Monday afternoon at the invitation of Li Qiang, Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China.

During his visit to China, the Prime Minister is scheduled to attend the World Economic Forum’s 17th Annual Meeting of the New Champions, also known as the Summer Davos Forum, which will take place in the port city of Dalian from June 23 to 25.

The event, themed "Innovating at Scale," will feature discussions on China's economic trajectory and the translation of technological advances into real economic benefits, with over 1,700 participants from more than 90 countries expected to attend.

Beyond the forum, the Prime Minister’s diplomatic agenda includes a bilateral meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang on June 25, followed by a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on June 26.

The visit underscores Bangladesh’s commitment to deepening cooperation with China across key infrastructure, technology, and development frameworks. The Prime Minister is scheduled to return to Dhaka on Friday night.

Additional Foreign Secretary (Diplomacy and Other Priority Matters) AKM Shahidul Karim and other senior officials of the Ministry were present at the briefing.
