Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid solemn tribute to Chinese revolutionary heroes at the Monument to the People's Heroes in Tiananmen Square on Friday morning, marking a significant moment in his official four-day visit to China.

Upon his arrival at the square at 9:10 am local time, the Prime Minister was received by a smartly turned-out contingent of the Chinese Armed Forces, which accorded him a state salute.

During the ceremony, Tarique Rahman placed a special red-green wreath at the monument as the national anthems of Bangladesh and China were played and the bugle sounded the last post.

Following the wreath-laying, the Prime Minister, accompanied by his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, and other members of his entourage, stood in silence to honor the memory of the fallen heroes.

This tribute was a prelude to a busy final day of diplomacy in Beijing.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to hold high-level meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), at the Great Hall of the People.

The Prime Minister’s visit to China, undertaken at the invitation of his counterpart, Premier Li Qiang, follows a highly productive itinerary that began with his arrival in Beijing on Wednesday, where he was welcomed with the highest state honors, including a ceremonial red-carpet reception.

A central highlight of the visit occurred on Thursday, when Bangladesh and China signed 13 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to bolster bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors following formal talks between the Prime Minister and Premier Li Qiang.

The signing was followed by an official banquet hosted by the Chinese Premier. Additionally, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the Communist Party of China (CPC) signed a separate MoU at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

During his stay, the Prime Minister also met with Chinese Water Resources Minister Li Guoying, held a party-to-party meeting with Liu Haixing, Minister of the International Department of the CPC and addressed the "Invest Bangladesh" event organized by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA).

Furthermore, he engaged with senior executives from major industrial groups, including the China International Development Cooperation Agency, China Railway Construction Corporation, and China Road and Bridge Corporation, to explore expanded trade and investment opportunities to "contribute more effectively to Bangladesh's development journey."

This visit represents the second leg of the Prime Minister’s maiden official overseas tour, which commenced on June 21 with a visit to Malaysia, where he met with the Malaysian King, the Prime Minister, and other dignitaries.

Following Malaysia, he traveled to Dalian, China, to attend the World Economic Forum's Summer Davos 2026, where he engaged with leaders from around the world.

During the conference, the WEF President and CEO called on Tarique Rahman, who highlighted Bangladesh's climate initiatives, which reportedly drew "widespread appreciation from the international audience."

Consistent with his previous trips, the Prime Minister has traveled with a streamlined delegation of only 25 members, including 11 ministers, state ministers, and advisers.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to conclude his visit and depart Beijing for Dhaka at 5 pm local time on this day.
