The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) on Thursday reduced the prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and autogas, lowering the retail price of a 12kg LPG cylinder by BDT 357 and autogas by BDT 16.53 per litre.

Under the newly revised rates, a standard 12kg LPG cylinder will now be retailed at BDT 1,528, down from its previous price of BDT 1,885, while the retail cost of autogas has been slashed to BDT 70.40 per litre from BDT 86.93.

BERC Chairman Jalal Ahmed officially announced the new prices, stating that the revised rates will come into effect from 6:00 pm on this day and must be strictly implemented by all licensed LPG marketing companies across the country.

According to the regulatory commission's announcement, the retail price of privately marketed LPG has been fixed at BDT 123.55 per kilogram, down from BDT 153.31, which is inclusive of VAT.

In tandem with these adjustments, the commission also lowered the price of LPG supplied through privately owned reticulated gas systems to BDT 274.50 per cubic metre, down from the earlier price of BDT 340.70.

As per the comprehensive BERC decision, the retail prices for various sizes of privately marketed LPG cylinders have been adjusted as follows: BDT 1,591 for a 12.5 kg cylinder, BDT 1,910 for 15 kg, BDT 2,037 for 16 kg, BDT 2,291 for 18 kg, BDT 2,546 for 20 kg, BDT 2,801 for 22 kg, BDT 3,183 for 25 kg, BDT 3,819 for 30 kg, BDT 4,201 for 33 kg, BDT 4,456 for 35 kg, and BDT 5,729 for a 45 kg cylinder.

In a separate notification, the energy regulator further noted that the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has withdrawn Value Added Tax (VAT) at the LPG production stage and has instead imposed the VAT at the import stage.
