The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) on Sunday announced an upward adjustment in the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), setting the retail price of a 12-kilogram (kg) cylinder at BDT 1,940.
The new pricing, signed by Commission Secretary Md Nazrul Islam Sarkar, will take effect from 6 pm Sunday.
The BERC confirmed that prices for all 13 available cylinder sizes have been adjusted for the month of April.
To ensure a steady supply, the shipping fare and trader’s premium charge for LPG imports have been re-determined at USD 250 per tonne for the interim period.
According to the commission, the price hike is primarily driven by the escalating conflict in the Middle East and the ongoing crisis in the Strait of Hormuz.
These factors have led to the suspension of standard LPG shipping routes, forcing the use of alternative sources and significantly increasing fuel, insurance, and security costs.
The adjustment follows the Saudi Contract Price (Saudi CP), with Propane priced at USD 750 and Butane at USD 800 per tonne.
Based on a 35:65 ratio, the average Saudi CP was calculated at USD 782.50 per tonne for the re-fixation of LPG and auto gas prices for April 2026.
As per the BERC’s detailed breakdown, retail prices for various cylinder sizes are now fixed as follows:
Additionally, the price of auto gas has been re-fixed at BDT 89.50 per litre.
For the private sector, reticulated LPG is now priced at BDT 157.91 per kg (inclusive of VAT), while the rate for LPG supplied via gas systems stands at BDT 351 per cubic metre.
