The government is formulating a comprehensive new visa policy by amending the existing guidelines introduced in 2006, aiming to simplify entry and exit procedures for foreign nationals, attract foreign investment and boost tourism.
A draft of the proposed 'Visa Policy 2026' was formally placed during a Cabinet meeting on Thursday.
To further refine and review the draft, the Cabinet has formed a specialized committee headed by the finance minister.
During this review and finalization process, the Ministry of Home Affairs will provide necessary secretarial support to the committee.
Through this initiative, the government is looking to devise a modern, efficient, and service-oriented immigration system.
The core objectives of the proposed policy include making the entry and exit of foreigners both easy and disciplined while actively attracting foreign investment, business ventures, and skilled human resources.
Additionally, the policy is designed to promote the country's tourism and hospitality sector, ensure technology and knowledge transfer, maintain national security, preserve international diplomatic balance and manage international travel based on the fundamental principle of reciprocity.
