Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has introduced a comprehensive 10-point package of measures to tackle the severe flood and landslide crisis in Chattogram and surrounding districts following days of relentless heavy rainfall and hill runoff.

Prime Minister's Office spokesperson Mahdi Amin detailed these interventions in a Friday social media statement, noting that the Chattogram region faces an alarming natural disaster that has triggered widespread flooding and immense suffering for countless families.

To regain control and provide rapid humanitarian support, the Prime Minister has enacted a series of effective and swift measures while personally monitoring the situation.

The PMO remains in regular communication with deputy commissioners, Upazila Nirbahi Officers, law enforcement agencies, and other key officials to issue necessary directives on the ground.

Official figures indicate that 1,057 shelters have been opened across the disaster-stricken zones of the Chattogram division, accommodating more than 12,000 displaced individuals.

Through the General Relief programme, Tk 2.15 crore in cash assistance along with 3,450 tonnes of rice have been swiftly dispatched to people impacted across the five districts of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban.

In alignment with government directives, the administration has arranged safe drinking water supplies, adequate sanitation facilities, healthcare services, baby food, and three daily meals for those affected.

Addressing the emergency conditions, law enforcement personnel have been deployed to execute rescue operations in hazardous hilly tracts, with army units deployed wherever necessary.

Members of Parliament and local public representatives are actively visiting the flood-hit areas within the Chattogram division to supervise the situation, distribute relief supplies, and deliver messages of support from the Prime Minister while remaining alongside victims.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister instructed leaders and activists of the ruling BNP and its associated bodies to support the affected populations through personal and organizational relief operations.

Under the direct instructions of the Prime Minister, the civil administration, various ministries, law enforcement agencies, the Armed Forces and the Bangladesh Coast Guard are operating in close coordination from field levels to central offices, ensuring every organ of the state assists the public through this crisis.

Due to the disruptive floods and landslides, Higher Secondary Certificate and equivalent examinations in the impacted zones have been postponed.

Local administrative officials, joined by community leaders and activists, have visited the families of individuals killed or injured in the disaster to offer condolences and coordinate assistance.

To mitigate future waterlogging vulnerabilities following the submergence of the 47-km Chattogram-Dohazari railway line during the prolonged downpours, authorities have adopted a long-term plan to elevate the railway tracks by five feet, with the tender process already underway.

The government will also arrange safe relocation housing for communities residing in high-risk landslide areas. Current government estimates show that the incessant rains, floods, and landslides have resulted in 30 fatalities and marooned thousands of residents across the division.
