Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday instructed all relevant agencies and field administration officials to exercise the utmost vigilance and coordination to safeguard the lives and properties of citizens impacted by heavy rainfall and subsequent waterlogging, ensure the swift delivery of medical and relief assistance, and maintain total control over the crisis.

The directive was issued while the premier addressed a virtual conference via Zoom from his office in the Bangladesh Secretariat this afternoon, as briefed by Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary Md Suzauddhowla Sujon Mahmud.

The high-level digital assembly connected the Prime Minister with Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Inspectors General of Police, Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police, Civil Surgeons, and key field administrators across all eight administrative divisions of the country.

During the session, field officials updated the Prime Minister on localized waterlogging conditions, the extent of property damage, operational readiness of shelter facilities, ongoing rescue efforts, relief distribution status, and medical intervention progress.

Underscoring the government's core focus, the Prime Minister stated that protecting the lives and properties of the people is the administration's highest priority during this disaster.

Stressing that there is no room for negligence, he instructed the authorities to ensure the rapid delivery of relief materials, dry food, safe drinking water, baby food, essential medicines, and medical services to those affected.

Tarique Rahman further highlighted the necessity of maintaining safe, well-sanitized environments at shelter facilities, alongside reliable electricity and communication networks.

He explicitly commanded officials to prioritize targeted healthcare and security measures for vulnerable groups, including women, children, elderly citizens, persons with disabilities, and pregnant women. To maintain civic order, law enforcement units were ordered to remain on maximum alert.

He said it must be ensured that no unscrupulous groups exploit the disaster situation by engaging in theft, robbery, hoarding, misappropriation of relief materials, or any other criminal activities, while stressing absolute transparency, accountability, and priority for genuine victims in relief distribution.

According to the deputy press secretary, the conference featured extensive reviews of disaster readiness, local administrative actions, agency synergy during rescue maneuvers, and continuous tracking of meteorological forecasts and river stages.

Officials reporting from Chattogram indicated that the local waterlogging crisis has slowly begun to ease.

Conversely, the meeting learned that conditions in the Sylhet region are worsening due to a breach in the Manu River embankment, alongside a looming threat of new waterlogging in the Rangpur Division.

Following these updates, the Prime Minister ordered all concerned authorities to implement comprehensive precautionary plans, keep critical equipment and personnel primed, and maintain unified, people-focused relief operations.
