Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday called for the broader expansion of public awareness campaigns aimed at building a clean and liveable Bangladesh, as he lauded the nationwide environmental and cleanliness efforts of the voluntary organization BD Clean.

The Prime Minister made the remarks during a courtesy call by a three-member BD Clean delegation at his office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, according to Md. Nazmul Haque Khan, assistant press secretary to the Prime Minister.

Discussions during the meeting centered on BD Clean's ongoing efforts to promote a cleaner Bangladesh, safeguard the environment, and foster a deeper public consciousness regarding civic responsibility.

State Minister for LGRD and Co-operatives Mir Shahe Alam was present at the discussions.

The delegation included BD Clean's former chief coordinators Champa Akter and Zahirul Islam Robi, alongside incumbent chief coordinator Masudur Rahman.

Underscoring the value of their grassroots work, the Prime Minister highly appreciated the role of BD Clean volunteers in building a clean and liveable Bangladesh and stressed the importance of further expanding such public awareness programmes across the country.

In response, the BD Clean representatives expressed their commitment to working under the Prime Minister's leadership to help transform Dhaka into a clean, liveable and environmentally friendly city.

Established on June 3, 2016, with just a single volunteer, BD Clean has since expanded into one of Bangladesh's premier volunteer networks, boasting a membership of over 58,000 active across 58 districts and 165 upazilas.

Over the past decade, the organization has spearheaded major ecological restoration projects, reviving 18 canals and seven rivers, rehabilitating 76 public parks, and maintaining a steady schedule of cleanliness drives and civic education campaigns nationwide.
