Speaker of Parliament Hafiz Uddin Ahmad has stepped into the role of acting president after President Mohammed Shahabuddin officially tendered his resignation.

Addressing a press briefing held at the Jatiya Sangsad on Friday afternoon, the Speaker confirmed that the outgoing president had formally delivered his resignation letter directly to him.

"The president has submitted his resignation letter to me. In accordance with Article 54 of the Constitution, I have assumed the responsibilities of the president," the speaker said.

Hafiz further explained that he had already taken the requisite oath to fulfill the duties of acting president when he was initially sworn in as speaker, confirming he will carry out the responsibilities of the office in adherence to that oath as required.

The press briefing was attended by key officials, including Deputy Speaker Kayser Kamal, Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni, Attorney General Ruhul Quddus Talukder, along with senior officials from the Parliament Secretariat.
