Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md. Asaduzzaman said Saturday that Bangladesh's next President will be chosen during the upcoming regular session of Parliament slated for September.

Speaking to journalists following an event at the CIRDAP auditorium in the capital, the minister clarified that summoning a special parliamentary session is unnecessary for conducting the presidential election.

When pressed on whether legal proceedings would be initiated against former President Md. Shahabuddin following his step down, the law minister refrained from offering a direct response, stating that he preferred not to comment on the issue at present.

Mohammed Shahabuddin tendered his resignation on Friday afternoon, stepping down from the presidency citing health issues.
His formal letter of resignation was submitted directly to Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad.

Following the resignation of Mohammed Shahabuddin, Speaker of Parliament Hafiz Uddin Ahmad has taken over the duties of acting President pursuant to constitutional provisions.
