Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday reaffirmed the government's commitment to advancing modern healthcare technologies, highlighting the pivotal role of research and innovation while praising the Bangladeshi expert teams behind a domestically created ventilator and high-flow oxygen system.

The Prime Minister gave his assurances during a Health Ministry review session convened at his Secretariat office inside the Prime Minister's Office, where he promised comprehensive state backing to facilitate all required testing, regulatory clearances, and mass commercial manufacturing of both indigenous medical devices.

Briefing reporters on the proceedings, the Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu stated that the engineering teams delivered detailed presentations detailing the functionality, operational scope, and prospective roadmaps for the locally developed devices.

Emphasizing the strategic importance of domestic innovation, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman stated, "The government is giving the highest priority to research and innovation to advance modern healthcare technologies. The government will extend all necessary support for testing, quality certification and production of these medical devices."

According to officials present at the session, two separate specialist panels engineered the ventilator and high-flow oxygen unit, marking a notable milestone in local medical engineering.

Electoral and administrative officials noted that upon completing obligatory clinical testing and securing administrative approvals, the machinery could be deployed across health facilities nationwide, while simultaneously opening up export opportunities in international markets.

They further highlighted that producing these devices domestically yields significant cost advantages over foreign alternatives, ultimately making high-end medical interventions more economical for the general public.

Technical experts participating in the deliberations explained that the newly developed ventilator serves as a critical life-support mechanism for individuals battling severe respiratory failure.

They pointed out that comprehensive secondary evaluations will be conducted to verify its operational safety, clinical effectiveness, and alignment with global benchmarks.

Regarding the high-flow oxygen unit, specialists clarified that the apparatus is built to treat patients experiencing moderate respiratory distress.

A standout feature of this device is its ability to function without a continuous connection to the electrical grid, rendering it exceptionally functional for remote rural clinics lacking stable power grids, as well as for emergency transit inside moving ambulances.

The domain specialists emphasized that successful local fabrication and widespread clinical adoption of these medical technologies will substantially curb Bangladesh's reliance on costly imported health equipment.

The high-level session was attended by Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain, State Minister Dr M A Muhit, the Prime Minister's Special Assistant on Health Dr SM Ziauddin Haider, Health Services Division Secretary Md Kamruzzaman Chowdhury, BUET Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Shariful Islam, the Prime Minister's personal physician Associate Professor Dr Shah Muhammad Aman Ullah, and Assistant Private Secretary-1 to the Prime Minister Dr Mamun Shibly, alongside other senior officials.
