US Prioritizes Deeper Economic Ties with Bangladesh, Says US Special Envoy

US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Ambassador Sergio Gor affirmed that enhancing bilateral economic cooperation and expanding the overall strategic partnership with Bangladesh stands as a primary focus for Washington, following a high-level meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

"Today, I had the opportunity to discuss with the Honorable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman the great opportunities between the US and Bangladesh to enhance economic cooperation and strengthen our partnership," Gor said in an official statement released by the US Embassy in Dhaka following the talks.

Emphasizing the mutual benefits of the ongoing diplomatic engagement, Ambassador Gor added, "This is a priority for the United States, and together we can achieve real success!"

The statements followed the US Special Envoy's courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in Dhaka during his maiden official visit to Bangladesh, highlighting Washington's strategic push to broaden commercial ties and consolidate bilateral relations across multiple sectors.

Ambassador Gor landed in Dhaka on July 30 for a three-day official visit. Throughout his stay, he has conducted a series of diplomatic discussions with top Bangladeshi leaders, including Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, to chart out mechanisms for advancing mutual interests between the two nations.
